This article is a great short overview of the WordPress structure, function, and development tracks available. This includes, plugins, themes, WordPress’ own blog, mobile sites, and the WordPress codex.
I find the codex to be an invaluable resource when I am coding websites. Although I can not write php from scratch, I have become well acquainted with WordPress’ php structure and have used that knowledge to modify existing code.
