Use Plugin Last Updated to keep an eye on your aging plug-ins

Old computer technology: "floppies"What a great idea! Security has been on my mind a lot lately. WordPress is extremely popular and, just like anything, as it gets more popular it becomes a sweeter target for hackers and spammers.

There are many ways a WordPress website can be attacked, and having outdated plug-ins can be one of the easiest ways for hackers to get into your website. For most people, this primarily means keeping your plug-ins updated. But, this plug-in focuses more on plug-ins that are no longer maintained by their author.

As you’ll see in the article below, with Plugin Last Updated,  you can see when an author last updated their software. My rule of thumb is any plug-in that has not been updated in the last year gets a thorough review by me and is usually replaced by another plug-in, or at least heavily monitored moving forward.
